Body Found By Students Near Lincoln-Way East

A group of runners at Lincoln-Way East High School found the body of a 48-year-old Mokena man in the Hickory Creek Preserve.

FRANKFORT, IL - A group of runners at Lincoln-Way East High School came across a dead body during a non school-related training session Tuesday afternoon, school officials said. Forest Preserve police said a 48-year-old Mokena man was found dead in a suspected suicide. His identity has not been released as of Wednesday morning.

Taryn Atwell, a spokeswoman for the Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210, said the students discovered the body while preparing for track season after school Tuesday. The students immediately alerted school authorities, who called police. The parents of the students involved were called as well, Atwell said.

The students were conditioning independently, it was not a school-related activity.

Cindy Cain, a spokeswoman for the Forest Preserve District of Will County, said the man's body was found in the Hickory Creek Preserve near Lincoln-Way East around 3:30 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday morning, with results pending.

Atwell said the students who found the body met with school counselors about the incident on Wednesday.

The Will County Coroner's Office could not immediately confirm that a death had occurred.
