Frankfort Girl, 6, Killed In School Bus Accident

FRANKFORT, IL — A 6-year-old Frankfort girl died Tuesday after she was struck by a school bus, Frankfort police confirmed

According to police, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Aberdeen Road at 3:24 p.m. and found the unresponsive 6-year-old with serious injuries. Witnesses and first responders attempted CPR and life-saving measures at the scene, officials said.

She was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the girl as Jenna Menias, saying she died at a hospital in Olympia Fields.

Earlier in the afternoon, Frankfort School District 157-C confirmed that the student was involved in an accident with a school bus.

Students on the bus were also evaluated by first responders and reunited with their families, the district said. Police said no one else on the bus was injured.

"Our immediate priority is the health, safety, and emotional well-being of the student involved, their family, and all our students and staff," the district said in a statement. "We know that an event of this nature deeply affects our entire school family. We encourage students who may be feeling worried or upset to reach out to a trusted adult, teacher, social worker, or other member of our school support team."

Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 said a Lincoln-Way bus was transporting Frankfort School District 157-C students at the time of the crash, according to WGN.

The Frankfort school district said it and Lincoln Way Transportation are working together with the Frankfort Police Department and Will County Sheriff's Office as they investigate the situation.

"This tragic incident has had a profound impact on those involved, their families, and our community," police said in a statement Tuesday night. "We extend our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this heartbreaking event."

Police added, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, their family, loved ones and all those impacted as they navigate this difficult time."

They also asked anyone with information to contact the Frankfort Police Department.
