Chelsea School Literacy Celebration

All students took home a free book to practice the skills they learned

A great turnout of over 300 students participated in a literacy celebration at Chelsea Intermediate School. At this event, teachers shared with families the reading strategies used during the school day.
Students and families participated in various activities hosted by teachers. These including walking through a version of the book The Giving Tree created by classrooms, close reading Oreos, art and a variety of texts.

The students also learned about vocabulary resources and organizers that are used in classrooms, did some writing, saw explanatory displays about units of study for grades 3-5 and visited a variety of websites that parents and students can use at home.

Students who completed at least eight activities were entered into a raffle for book baskets. Winners of the book baskets included Lucas Garcia, Tommy O’Brien, Connor Cumbee, Sophia Deanching and Hunter Lehman. Every Chelsea student left with a free book of their choice so they could practice the literary strategies they learned about during the evening.
