Chelsea students participate in Bluestem Awards

Some students read all 20 nominated books!

Chelsea Intermediate School recently participated in the Illinois Bluestem Awards. The book award program was implemented by the state and is intended for students in grades three to five. The District 157-C Education Foundation supports this program at the school by supplying a grant to purchase several copies of each title.

Chelsea students were encouraged to read as many of the 20 nominated books as possible. Students that read four or more books were allowed to vote for their favorite book. This year’s winning book is “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate.

Students that read all 20 books were invited to a special breakfast in the Chelsea Library to preview next year’s nominated books. Classes that read the most books for their grade level won pizza parties. (Pictured) Mrs. Cindy Lang’s class won for fourth grade. Mrs. Staci Chronos’ class won for third grade and Mrs. Karen Graf’s class won for fifth grade.
