Chelsea students participate in Guinness World Record effort

The students were stacking with 635,000+ people around the globe to help break a Guinness World Record.

On November 9 students at Chelsea Intermediate School participated in the annual World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) STACK UP. They are part of an effort to set a new Guinness World Record® for the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event.” The students were stacking with 635,000+ people around the globe to help break a Guinness World Record.

At Chelsea, the event was held as part of the “Parents in P.E.” program under the direction of physical education teachers Randy Klosowski, Matt Dykema and Ricky Innocenti. Parents were invited to participate with their children during physical education classes.

Along with trying to break the World Record as they stacked cups, Chelsea students also participated in “Stack the Stock” by bringing in canned goods to stack and donate to the Frankfort Township Food Pantry.

Sport stacking takes place in schools and youth organizations worldwide. It is appealing to teachers and students because it’s easy to learn but very challenging to master. Benefits include improved reaction time, hand-eye coordination and focus. It also promotes self-confidence, teamwork and good sportsmanship. The WSSA is the governing body for sport stacking and promotes stack meets, leagues and tournaments around the world. More information about the program is at http://www.thewssa.com.
