D157-C Board of Education waives student registration fees

Fees waived as relief to families for 2020-2021 school year amidst pandemic

FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort School District 157-C Board of Education unanimously voted to waive student registration fees for the 2020-2021 school year at a special meeting last month.

The Board sought to ease the financial burdens created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We, the Board of Education, have always received support from the community on all of our decisions,” Board President Edith Lutz said. “At this time, with the COVID -19 pandemic, we know families who are struggling because they may have lost income. So, we feel that we needed to support our families and help them by waiving the registration fees for this upcoming year.”

The District is in a strong financial position because of its fund balances and history of financial responsibility. Typically, the District receives approximately $350,000 in student registration fees each year.

“I am pleased that our Board of Education acted swiftly to waive student fees for the 2020-2021 school year,” Superintendent Dr. Maura Zinni said. “We know that families may be financially strapped due to the pandemic, and this small gesture may help our families rest a little easier.”
