D157-C receives Exemplary Designations on School Report Cards

Students at all three schools advance in English, math, science

FRANKFORT, IL — Frankfort School District 157-C is proud to announce that all three of its schools received Exemplary Designations on the Illinois State Board of Education’s School Report Cards this year.

These designations mean that Grand Prairie Elementary School, Chelsea Intermediate School and Hickory Creek Middle School are performing among the top 10 percent of schools in the state, and students at these schools continue to grow academically.

“We are proud of our students' continued growth in English Language Arts, Math and Science,” Superintendent Dr. Maura Zinni said. “This progress reflects the investments we have made to support our dedicated and talented teaching staff including instructional coach support, smaller class sizes, increased access to technology, and robust extra-curricular offerings.”

In science, 72 percent of students at Chelsea and 86 percent of students at Hickory Creek tested proficient in science, compared to the State average of 49 percent. The District’s average was 79 percent.

The District continues to devote part of each school day to health and wellness instruction and activities for students, compared to a State average of 3.7 days per week. The District also continues to focus on elevating social and emotional learning initiatives to support and sustain its strong academic achievements.

This year, for the first time, ISBE’s designations and academic indicators appear alongside site-based expenditures detailing how much money the District spends per student at each school. This data allows the District to evaluate the relationship between financial investments and student outcomes.

“We are proud to report that we continue to use our taxpayers' dollars wisely and make spending decisions based on what is best for our students' overall educational needs,” Zinni said.

In addition to celebrating its successes, the District uses School Report Card data to evaluate where there is room for improvement, and it makes adjustments in response to growth rates. It encourages parents and guardians to provide feedback, and all community members are welcome to attend the 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 20 Board of Education meeting at the District Office for a detailed presentation on the components of the District’s Illinois School Report Cards.
