District 157-C Family School Partnership to host "Holidays Around the World"

Will celebrate winter holiday traditions and cultures of many countries

The District 157-C Family School Partnership (FSP) will host its third annual “Holidays Around the World” event. This program is intended to welcome the winter season, highlight holiday traditions from countries around the world and celebrate our diverse ethnic backgrounds and cultures.

The “Holidays Around the World” program is FREE to all District 157-C families on Wednesday, December 3rd, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Grand Prairie Elementary School, 10482 W. Nebraska Street. Grand Prairie students should bring the FSP airplane tickets that they receive at school prior to the event. Upon arrival, students from all three schools will be given a passport to visit all of the tables representing various countries to learn the many ways that different ethnicities embrace the winter holiday season. When the students complete their entire checklist and see all stations and participants, their names will be entered into a free raffle for a prize valued over $125.

Families will have an opportunity to learn more about traditions around the world through presentations by volunteer families about their own cultural traditions. The FSP is also looking forward to local business and community participation to help make this program a huge success. Lincoln-Way foreign language students, the Frankfort Historical Society, the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and local area businesses will be represented.

There will also be crafts for the children to complete and take home. Grand Prairie Principal Eileen Nelson and Assistant Principal Sharon Nepote will read stories to the children in “Frosty’s Reading Corner” and complimentary hot chocolate will be available to everyone. Smoothies will be also available for purchase from NuVibe and pizza will be sold by Tony’s Villa Rosa. The FSP is encouraging families to bring their cameras to take unique photos at the new photo backdrop area.

Volunteers are welcome to help with this program. FSP Chairperson Kris McGuire stated, “This event is the best of both worlds, our heritage and our fabulous town of Frankfort. Our goal is to get more countries represented from families, businesses and organizations within our district and to continue to share this event and all of our diverse cultural backgrounds with our community. I hope people will reach out to me and help this annual event grow.” More information is with McGuire at kkmacfsp@yahoo.com or 847-483-4133.
