District 157-C offers program for parents on connection between food and behavior

"It's More Than Just Gluten Free"

On November 10, all Lincoln-Way area parents are invited for the second in the series of Tiger University parent events. “It’s More Than Just Gluten Free” will be presented at Hickory Creek Middle School, 22150 W. 116th Avenue in Frankfort, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., featuring Dr. Todd K. Roach of Inspire Family Wellness. Research continues to support the impact of food choice, nutrition and how the gut processes everyday foods on the brain. Inattention, brain fog, difficulty in school, behaviors and symptoms associated with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other childhood disorders have all been associated with the gut. This workshop will offer insight to the connection between food and behavior, as well as provide helpful information into what you can do. Parents should pre-register for the program at www.fsd157c.org, in the Virtual Backpack section for the District Office.

Tiger University is a new opportunity for Lincoln-Way area parents is being offered by Frankfort School District 157-C in collaboration with its Family School Partnership (FSP) organization. It offers parent nights throughout the year to provide information on a variety of topics that can empower parents to raise confident, educated children.

The first Tiger University program, “Safe, Smart & Social” was a big success with over 100 parents in attendance. They learned tips from presenter Josh Ochs about keeping children safe when they are online and ways to help them build a positive online presence before they complete their college applications. Josh Ochs is the author of “Light, Bright and Polite” and he travels the country training 30,000 teens and tweens each year. He shows kids how to use social media to create a portfolio of accomplishments that impress colleges and future employers. He also helps thousands of parents learn how they can have a dialog with their kids about social media safety. If you were unable to attend this beneficial program, more information can be found at https://safesmartsocial.com.
