District 157-C recognizes students qualifying for State competition

Over 300 students qualified for State this year!

Some 300 Frankfort School District 157-C students were invited to be recognized by the Board of Education, administrators, school staff, families and peers on June 15. The students were recognized for qualifying to perform at the State level this year in academics, performing arts and athletics at a special recognition program just prior to the Board of Education meeting. The students have also been recognized at school assemblies and some by the Village of Frankfort.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maura Zinni welcomed the students and their families stating, “We can’t tell you how proud we are of your children. Over 300 students have demonstrated over this year that they are hard workers, set goals, comfortable taking risks, team players and committed to their teams, not only in academics but so much more.”

Hickory Creek Middle School Principal Will Seidelmann agreed, stating “We do not take lightly how accomplished these students are. With 863 regular public school districts in Illinois, it is amazing that this many of our students qualified for State.” He thanked the parents, coaches, sponsors, directors, School Board and District Office for their support.

Students who qualified at the State level were recognized in the areas of Chorus, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Economic Poster Contest, Geography Bee, Scholastic Bowl, Science Fair, Softball, Judges Choice Speech, Special Olympics, Tiger Band, Track, Bowling, Wrestling and Letters about Literature.

Following the student recognition, Board of Education President Gina Briese said, “We are glad we can recognize this great representation of the district. This hard work and effort represents us so well and we thank your parents for supporting us.”

At the Board of Education meeting following the recognition program, Dr. Zinni stated, “What we saw tonight was a marvelous tribute to our district. We want these kids to feel special for their accomplishments.” Principal Will Seidelmann reported that plans are in the works to hold similar assemblies on a quarterly basis so that parents, community, Board members and student peers can recognize every student participating during that quarter. He stated, “These types of programs show just how many students are really involved in getting more than just what happens in the classroom.”
