District 157-C schools host food drives to benefit Frankfort Township Food Pantry

Student Council members get tour of Food Pantry to learn how donations can help

Through the District 157-C Charitable Giving Committee, Grand Prairie Elementary, Chelsea Intermediate and Hickory Creek Middle Schools are participating in food drives with all donations supporting the Frankfort Township Food Pantry.

The Chelsea food drive has just been completed. Chelsea incorporated the food drive into its annual Guinness World Record cup stacking event by having the students bring in non-perishable food to “stack the stock.” Hickory Creek Student Council members packed and unloaded Chelsea’s food donations at the Food Pantry in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. While there, the students were given an educational tour of the Food Pantry to learn how it benefits local needy families. More information about the Food Pantry is at http://www.frankforttownship.com.

Grand Prairie’s food drive will be held in February and Hickory Creek’s food drive will be held in April. Food Drive Coordinators include staff members Sean Rhoads for Grand Prairie, Rachel Newcomb for Chelsea and Amy Steele for Hickory Creek.
