District 157-C Special Olympics Track & Field

Team comes home with 13 gold, 8 silver, 3 bronze, one 4th place and one 5th place

Frankfort School District 157-C is proud to announce that its Special Olympics athletes did very well at the Thornwood High School Track and Field meet. It was a beautiful day and each and every athlete surpassed their coaches’ expectations. The athletes practiced hard each week since the beginning of March and their time and practice paid off. The team came home with 13 gold medals, 8 silver medals, 3 bronze medals, one 4th place ribbon and one 5th place ribbon. In addition, over 10 athletes qualified to go to the state competition held at Illinois State University in June.

The athletes’ accomplishments include:

Parker Anderson- Gold Softball Throw, 4th place 50 Meter
Joey Barrett - Gold Running Long Jump, Silver 200 Meter
Adam Cichon - Bronze Long Jump, Silver Softball Throw
Nathan Cichon - Gold Shot Put, Gold Standing Long Jump
Jaden Gryga - Gold Shot Put, Silver 100 Meter
Trey Gryga- Bronze Softball Throw, Bronze, Standing Long Jump
Erik Honsik - Gold Standing Long Jump, Gold Softball Throw
Gianni Klauba – Gold Softball Throw, Silver Standing Long Jump
William Miller - Gold 100 Meter, Silver Standing Long Jump
Reilly Murray - Gold Softball Throw, 5th place 100 Meter
Carter Navarro – Silver 100 Meter, Silver Shot Put
Keira Schroeder - Gold Softball Throw, Silver 100 Meter
Paige VanderWoude - Gold 100 Meter, Gold Softball Throw

Also at this event Joey Barrett was part of the Opening Ceremonies, helping bring in the Olympic torch as a representative for Area 7.

The coaches included Laura Brannigan, Felicia Bysina, Cari Clousing, Alexandra Dyer, Christine Freiberg, Lori Irving, Ricky Innocenti, Raelene Nikolic, Josh Purpura, Kathleen Spiller, Lori Stanevicius, Mitch Stein and Mary Zoko.
