District 157-C student to participate in Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies
Gold Medalist will help bring in the Olympics Torch
Frankfort School District 157-C student Joey Barrett will be part of the Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies on May 2nd at Thornwood High School for the track and field meet. Joey was picked as a representative for Area 7 and will help bring in the torch.
All of the local coaches were asked to nominate an athlete that should be honored and Joey was chosen by his coaches for his dedication and determination. Head Coaches Cari Clousing and Lori Stanevicius feel that he is a terrific choice and will serve a role model for other athletes. Cari Clousing stated, “We nominated him as an athlete who inspires others to do their best and he is truly an amazing and talented athlete.”
Each year for the past three years, Joey has qualified to go to state and has come home with many gold medals. He has already qualified to go to state this year on June 12-14 at Illinois State University. He will participate in the boy’s gymnastics floor routine after earning a gold award at the regional meet last March in Palatine.
