Emerald Ash Borer-Infected Trees on the Chopping Block in Frankfort

The Village of Frankfort has marked 656 ash trees for eradication.

The Village of Frankfort's review of its ash trees found 656 were left in "poor condition" by emerald ash borers and will have to be removed.

"The Public Works Department will remove trees 12 inches and smaller," the village said in a press release. "Larger trees will be removed by GroundsKeeper Landscape Care, the low bidder for the project. Stumps will be ground on all tree removal."

Groundskeeper Landscape Care's low bid  was $66,926.96.

The trees determined to be in poor condition will be removed by March 31. New trees will be planted that spring as well. The village will inform residents by letter of the removal and replacement.

“Our public works department continues to work diligently to review all ash trees throughout the year and remove those that are in poor condition,” said Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland.
