FRANKFORT, IL — The Founders Community Center gymnasium will be out of service for an estimated six months, the park district shared in an update on its website.

Staff discovered an issue in the gym ceiling, the park district said on its website. The gym was taken out of service, and engineers conducted an initial structural review.

Executive Director Gina Hassett told Patch that two out of the four wood trusses have cracks, and need to be repaired before the space can be used.

"Staff is working with District 157-C and 210 to work through summer programming offerings," Hassett said in an email.

The Founders Community Center, 140 Oak St., used to be Frankfort Middle School. The gym was constructed in 1959, according to the park district website.

The park district acquired the property in the 1990s from District 157-C, and houses its administrative offices and programs at the center.
