Frankfort Approves Assisted Living, Memory Care Facility

The 72,930-square-foot, 83-unit facility will be developed by Dober Development.

FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort village board has approved the first assisted living facility for the town. The board approved a special use permit and planned unit development for Cedarhurst Senior Living at its Sept. 3 meeting.

The facility is located in the Prairie Crossing subdivision off of Wolf Road, between the Old Plank Road Trail and Kohl's. The 72,930-square-foot, 83-unit facility will be developed by Dober Development.

A representative from Dober Development said 56 of the units will be assisted living, and 27 will be for memory care.

Village trustee Margaret Farina said she had gone back and forth whether to vote in favor of the project.

"While I do believe we need a memory care facility in the southland, I think that's a good addition for our community, I do have concerns that I've voiced with staff and my colleagues about the specific location," Farina said. She said she would have liked to see something like a townhome development to help boost retail nearby, and it could have been an attractive development for millenials or other age groups. Farina still did vote in favor of the project.

The Plan Commission had unanimously approved the facility, and the village board also unanimously gave the go ahead to the development.
