Frankfort Area Coronavirus Cases Increased By 20 Over Past Week

Will County is still at warning level due to its new cases per 100,000 and number of deaths.

FRANKFORT, IL — The number of coronavirus cases in the Frankfort area has increased by 20 cases over the past week, according to data from the Will County Health Department. Frankfort (ZIP code 60423) has 339 cases as of Aug. 20, compared to 319 cases on Aug. 13, which represents a 6.2 percent increase.

Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths or recoveries by municipality.

Since testing began, IDPH reporting a total of 5,608 tests have been performed for ZIP code 60423.

In nearby towns in the Lincoln-Way area, both Mokena (ZIP code 60448) and New Lenox (ZIP code 60451) have fewer cases, with 247 and 313 cases, respectively, as of Aug. 20. Manhattan (ZIP code 60442) has 89 cases, according to data from the county health department.

As of Friday, Illinois' coronavirus case count was 215,929 and the coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,857 Illinois residents. In Will County, there have been 10,501 cases of the coronavirus and 354 related deaths.

The state recently developed new resurgence criteria to identify early but significant increases of coronavirus transmission. With the new criteria, the state also developed new emergency management regions, and Will County is now part of region 7.

Frankfort, as part of Will County, is at warning level due to its new cases per 100,000 and number of deaths. Once a region meets resurgence criteria, mitigation measures will be implemented.

According to IDPH, as of data available on Aug. 20, region 7 has had five days of test positivity increases and three days of hospital admission increases. Data shows the positivity rate is at 7.9 percent for the region. Hospital availability for region 7, which includes Will and Kankakee counties, has 29 percent of medical-surgical beds available and 30 percent of ICU beds available.
