Frankfort Dog Recovering After Severe Injuries From Coyote Attack
Daisy the dachshund is facing a long recovery after the attack.

FRANKFORT, IL — A Frankfort family's dog is recovering after a traumatic coyote attack last week. Daisy, a dachshund, was severely injured in the attack, but is now home with her Frankfort family.
Susan Messaglia said her daughter, Christina, lives in the Prestwick subdivision in Frankfort.
Susan has created a GoFundMe account for Daisy and her daughter, and told Patch the veterinarian bill was $24,000 as a result of Daisy's injuries. The GoFundMe has raised nearly $10,000.

The attack happened in Christina's backyard, according to the GoFundMe.
"Christina ran outside barefoot and found three coyotes surrounding Daisy. In a terrifying moment, one of the coyotes grabbed Daisy and took off running. Without thinking twice, Christina chased after them—barefoot, through the snow, across the Prestwick golf course, screaming for help," Susan shared on the GoFundMe.

After nearly a mile, the coyote dropped the dog, and Christina grabbed her and ran, according to the GoFundMe. A neighbor heard her screaming and drove the two to the emergency vet.
Susan told Patch that Daisy finally came home on Feb. 3.
"She is doing well," she said.
The dog's injuries were so severe that a lobe was removed from her lung due to puncture wounds.
"She had many other wounds and three broken ribs," Susan said. "Also, she had to stay a few extra days in the hospital because when they took her test tube out, her oxygen dipped a little."
Daisy continues to recover, and "she started eating and going potty outside, and now my daughter just needs to give her pain meds, rest, and keep her wounds clean," Susan said.
