Frankfort Farmers Market Moves Indoors for the Winter

Market extends to two days after successful soft opening.

Farmers market fans won’t have to wait until the spring to shop local wares. A longtime Frankfort business hopes to keep the town’s farmers market thriving through the winter, with a two-day indoor market.

Following a successful soft opening, Alsip Home and Nursery will hold an indoor farmers market Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 20.

The market includes fall produce, baked goods, all natural meats and eggs, prepared foods on-site, gift baskets, hand-painted glassware, stained glass and more.

“We’ve been wanting to do an indoor farmers market for the last couple of years and this was a perfect marriage between the Alsip location inside the cover greenhouse area and the existing farmers market that was put on by the town and is so popular and loved by the surrounding residents each year,” said Dave Christakes, President, Alsip Home & Nursery.

Vendors were so pleased with the first day’s sales that they requested the market be extended to include Sunday. Aracely’s Bakery, who makes and serves hot homemade tamales, reported selling out of tamales. My Donut Lady reportedly sold out of their 1,200 apple cider doughnuts by 1 p.m.

The market’s grand opening is set for Nov. 14. Activities include live music and face-painting. Santa Claus will also be in-store, as part of the store’s 46th annual Christmas Open House. Staff will also raffle off an Apple Watch.

Saturday’s market hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the market continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alsip Home and Nursery is located at 20601 S. LaGrange Road, Frankfort. Click here for more info about the market.
