FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort Public Library is closed until further notice after water damage was discovered on Tuesday. Library Director Pierre Gregoire said staff came to work Tuesday and found a large portion of ceiling tiles had collapsed and there were many leaks.

The library is close to completing the removal of an older section of roof, as well as replacement of insulation and covering.

"The pipes from the roof drains on the old tar and gravel roof had over time filled with melted tar and clogged up causing the pipes to leak all along their path," Gregoire said. "The new roof was sealed so well that all the water wanted to go down the drains."

The roof workers are helping with the drain repair and ceiling work, Gregoire said, but a lot of ceiling tiles and drywall will need to be replaced. The roofers are also working over the front entrance of the library, so curbside pick-up is unavailable.

Staff is still available via phone, email and chat from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
