Frankfort Man Charged With Reckless Homicide, DUI In Woman's 2025 Crash Death

Police said a warrant has been issued for the man's arrest.

FRANKFORT, IL — Aggravated DUI and reckless homicide charges have been filed against a Frankfort man after a fatal crash that happened in May 2025, Frankfort Police told Patch.

Police Chief Leanne Chelepis said that the Will County State's Attorney's Office has approved felony charges against David Hampton, of Frankfort, stemming from a fatal crash that happened at 9:30 p.m. May 5, 2025, on St. Francis Road at Francis Lane.

Court records allege that Hampton was driving at least 35 mph over the speed limit when the vehicle struck a tree, killing passenger Nichelle Hampton.

According to an obituary, Nichelle Hampton, 54, died May 13, 2025, more than a week after the crash. An obituary for Nichelle Hampton's father identifies David Hampton as her husband.

David Hampton is charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, one count of reckless homicide and one count of speeding.

Chelepis said a warrant has been issued for Hampton's arrest. Police are not releasing further information at this time.
