Frankfort Movie Theater Shows Gun Safety PSA
The Be SMART program's purpose is to educate and train families on simple steps that can reduce the total number of unsecured guns in homes.
FRANKFORT, IL — The Emagine movie theater in Frankfort will be showing a gun safety PSA before its movies after working with local volunteers from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense.
The South Suburban Moms Demand Action group helps to spread the Be SMART message and the group is planning a trip to the theater to go see the PSA in action, volunteers said. The gun safety message will run for four weeks at the theater.
You can view the PSA here. The message urges adults to be SMART and secure and store guns locked and unloaded and separate guns from ammunition; model responsible behavior; ask family members and other parents if there are unsecured guns in the home; recognize the role of guns in suicide and tell as many people as you can to be SMART.

"As volunteers, we really believe it is our responsibility to keep our kids safe," Be SMART volunteer Megan Kivarkis said. "Throughout the U.S., millions of kids live in homes with firearms that are loaded and unsecured. We knew that other communities had had success getting the PSA in theaters, so we worked on contacting the companies that do the advertising before movies here in Illinois. They were very receptive to our message. We focused on Frankfort because we wanted to spread the message in a community that might not have heard the Be SMART message before."
Moms Demand Action launched the Be SMART program to educate and train individuals and families on simple steps that can reduce the total number of unsecured guns in homes and provide a safer environment for families and children, a release states.
