Frankfort New-Home Applications Surpass Last Year's Total
The increase is a good sign for the village's housing situation, but there's still room for improvement, mayor says.

In a sign that the economy could be slowly improving, new single-family home applications in Frankfort exceeded last year's total, said Mayor Jim Holland at .
As of August, the village had received 32 applications, four more than the 2010 total of 28. This is the second year in a row the village has seen an increase in home applications, Holland said.
"We certainly expect to have more by the end of the year," he said, adding that none of this year's applications were for spec houses.

Although the mayor noted that the increase was a good sign, he stressed that this didn't mean new-home sales were at an acceptable level yet.
"It's a gradually improving situation for the housing situation, (but) it's not adequate," Holland said after the meeting. "We still have about a thousand vacant, approved lots. Even at a rate of 50 (applications) a year, it would take us quite a while to fill those.

"We'll know the housing issue is corrected when we're seeing 100 a year," he added.
