The Brookmeadow Playground build is nearly complete. The new equipment and colors look great. During the installation, it was discovered that the swing bay doesn’t meet our expectations. The piece is being reshipped from the contractor and it is going to delay the final installation. Once we receive the equipment, an updated timeline can be provided. The final phase will be the play surface.

Noticeably, the Sandalwood Park replacement site has been sitting idle. The intentions of the projects were to have the Brookmeadow and Sandalwood replacement projects to run together. Having the contractor work at the two sites so crews wouldn’t sit idle. Park District staff made it clear that the equipment not be pulled until the new equipment was on site. This is how it started in June, then the contractor experienced a worker and material shortage. The Park District is disappointed that the playground equipment at Sandalwood was removed when it could have been used during the summer months. For this I apologize to the residents.
Park District staff has almost daily conversations with the contractor regarding the frustration. The contractors’ crews have been working daily at Brookmeadow, at times during the rain. With Brookmeadow coming to completion, barring further rain event, the contractor anticipates concrete work to start August 2 at Sandalwood.
