Frankfort Rib Cook-Off Winners Announced

Three winners and a crowd pleaser have been chosen from the rib cook-off.

FRANKFORT, IL — Hundreds of people flocked to downtown Frankfort on Aug. 3 for the 11th annual Amateur Rib Cook-Off. The village said there were 15 contestants from Frankfort, Palos Heights, Orland Park, Plainfield, Mokena, New Lenox, Chicago and other surrounding areas. The cooks used special spices and sauces to perfect the ideal rib for the cook-off.

The judges for the event were Rick Boehm (Kansas City Barbeque Society certified), Jeanine Smith (KCBS certified) and Dan McGee, Executive Chef. The winners for the contest were:

  • 1st place, Rusty Pig BBQ from Orland Park
  • 2nd place, Mi-Cue from Orland Park
  • 3rd place, Salt & Pepper from Frankfort

The crowd pleaser award went to Lillie's BBQ from Frankfort.

The event was co-sponsored by the village of Frankfort, Frankfort Area Jaycees, and the Frankfort Lions Club. All proceeds benefit the Frankfort Area Jaycees and Frankfort Lions Club organizations and serves as a fundraiser for their organizations.

“Thanks to the Frankfort Area Jaycees and the Frankfort Lions Club for their support and enthusiasm to make this event a huge success. We look forward to next year’s competition,” Mayor Jim Holland said in a release.
