Frankfort Store Encourages Women to Pray and Vote

Evilena's Red Dresser staff dress up as suffragettes to encourage women to pray, vote, and pray again.

Voters may have a tough choice this election cycle, but Frankfort’s Evilena’s Red Dresser, a women’s apparel and furniture consignment store is encouraging voters (especially women) with an inspirational message of hope.

Store owner, Janice Sabey, and employees Maureen Sorensen, Joyce McGarry, Cathrine Schipman and Tracy DeGraaf dressed as Women’s Suffragettes on Halloween sporting banners encouraging their mostly female customer base to pray first, then vote, then pray again.

“We wanted to encourage women to pray and vote,” said owner Janice Sabey. “The fact that our mothers and grandmothers and the women who came before them had to fight for the vote is a sobering thought,” Sabey said. “It made me want to reach out to our customers and consignors and encourage them to do their own research, pray about it, and vote,” she said.

Customers throughout the day loved the themed costumes. Some voiced their alliance toward one candidate or another on Facebook, Sabey redirected them in a post stating, “We dressed up as suffragettes yesterday not because we are for Hillary or for Trump, but because we are for the right to vote. Women fought hard and lost their lives for us to have that right. So whichever side you're for, please exercise your right to vote! Our message is simply to Pray. Vote. Pray again.”

Voters in Will County who haven’t yet registered can do so at the polls with the appropriate identification. For more information on where and how to vote, go to www.thewillcountyclerk.com.
