The village said Trevarthan was first elected to the village board in 1971. He has served as chairperson on various committee, most recently the operations committee. Trevarthan was also actively involved with landscape beautification in the community.

“On behalf of the residents of Frankfort, I thank Dick for his 32 years of service. The trustees and I
appreciate his true caring for the people of Frankfort. We could count on Dick to take a stand for what he felt would be in the long term best interest of the entire community on even the most controversial issues. Dick always represented the people in a fair and ethical manner. His passion for Frankfort will be missed,” Mayor Jim Holland said in a release.

State law calls for the mayor to appoint a new trustee with the advice and consent of the rest of the board within 60 days, the village said.
