Frankfort Waste Receptacle Screening Ordinance Starts Aug. 1

FRANKFORT, IL — In December 2019, the village board adopted an ordinance which required the visual screening of waste and recycle receptacles on single-family residential property. According to the village website, that ordinance will take effect on Aug. 1 in Frankfort.

Receptacles should be located inside a garage, behind the home or on the side of the home. Screening can be accomplished with landscaping, fencing and masonry walls, according to the village website.

The principal objective to achieve is restricting visibility of receptacles from the road, the website states. The ordinance is written to permit fines, but the village is interested in voluntary compliance.

According to the village, initial enforcement will be administered on a courteous basis, with fines reserved for "persistent non-compliance."
