Frankfort Wins Award For Comprehensive Plan

The Village of Frankfort is the recipient of the 2020 Daniel Burnham Award for its “Your Future, Your Frankfort 2040 Comprehensive Plan.” Presented by the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association at its Virtual Awards Program on September 16, 2020, the award is named after one of the nation’s most renowned urban planners and co-author of the 1909 Plan of Chicago.

It is conferred annually through a competitive peer-review process to recognize exemplary planning efforts throughout the state that advance the art and science of community planning.
Mayor Jim Holland commented, “planning the future with citizen input is critical for the well-being of our community. The residents and I are very pleased with the results and honored to be recognized for our efforts.”

Carried out between March 2018 through December 2019, the planning process took a multi-channel approach toward citizen participation, ensuring dynamic and inclusive input. The plan addresses a broad range of community topics, from the long-term use of land to the specifics of architectural design in some areas.
