Frankfort's Lead Service Line Replacement Program Complete

Funding for the replacement program came through a $1,840,535 loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

FRANKFORT, IL — At its Monday meeting, the Frankfort Village Board approved a final loan closing amendment for the drinking water lead service line replacement project.

The replacement program is complete, and the initiative ended on Oct. 31. 93 lead service lines across the Village were removed and replaced, according to the Village.

Funding for the replacement program came through a $1,840,535 loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The loan included 100 percent principal forgiveness, and "provided essential financial supported for the project," the Village said.

At Monday's meeting, the Board approved a reducing the final loan amount to $1,030,950.

Mayor Keith Ogle said the Village had identified the lead service lines years ago.

"Different communities throughout the state are still down in Springfield, trying to lobby for the millions of dollars that they need in order to do this," Ogle said.

Ogle said the Village of Frankfort "got ahead of the curve."
