Grand Prairie FSP Book Fair Event: "Never Quit Reading!"
Numerous activities for families based upon books nominated for the Monarch Award
It was all about fun with books and the importance of reading at Grand Prairie Elementary School recently when the District 157-C Family School Partnership (FSP) hosted a special Book Fair event for families.
Grand Prairie staff, the FSP and parent volunteers made it a great event with numerous activities tied to reading set up all throughout the school. Each of the activities focused on a book that was nominated for the Monarch Award. Children were encouraged to make “chick” puppets for an interactive play based on the book “That Is Not a Good Idea” by Mo Willems. It featured Assistant Principal Dr. Sharon Nepote as a goose being invited to dinner by the hungry fox as played by teacher Cari Martin.
The children could also make “creepy carrots” and pose with them in the photo booth, write letters to teachers and mail them, work with their family and friends to build houses out of a variety of different sized boxes, add their handprints to a Kindness Tree, learn American Sign Language and make pet rocks. Additional activities included making a Birthday Book donation if desired and viewing silhouettes of characters from books in a contest to guess which books were depicted.

Mystery readers at the event turned out to be their own Superintendent Dr. Maura Zinni and physical education teacher Lori McCurdy. Families could also purchase books for all ages at the Book Fair which was ongoing throughout the event. The annual Book Fair is just one of the many activities that the FSP provides for the students throughout the school year.
