Grand Prairie students perform a tribute to veterans

Many local area veterans enjoy assembly by students

The pre-kindergarten through second grade students at Grand Prairie Elementary School participated in an all-school Veterans Day assembly on November 11 with local area veterans invited to attend. Students learned what it means to be a veteran and the importance of their service to our country. Many students dressed in red, white and blue clothing to pay tribute to the veterans.

The assembly began with a second grade Cub Scout Troop presenting the color guard salute. Under the direction of music teacher Brooke Turnbough, the second graders sang a medley of patriotic songs for the veterans and student body. A slide show was also presented to the audience showing video clips of children reading their writing.

Through the District Charitable Giving Committee, all District 157-C schools are also collecting and organizing holiday gift packages for the men and women who are serving in the armed forces.
