Grand Prairie team earns trophy in Walk of Hope
Most money raised by a school or organization!
Each year, staff members from Grand Prairie Elementary School walk as a team in the Walk of Hope. This annual event is sponsored by the Mokena Cancer Support Center which provides free resources to help people improve their quality of life during the cancer experience.
The walk was held on May 17 and the Grand Prairie team won the trophy for the most money raised by a school or organization. Grand Prairie students Jake Lee, Ben Erdsfeld, Matthew Erdsfeld, Evan Riff, Payton Lee and Avery Riff accepted the trophy on behalf of the team.
Prior to the walk, the team raised funds through the creation of a T-shirt drawing contest which was won by second grader Abby Bunch. Students from every grade level in every classroom at the school were welcome to participate and the contest resulted in hundreds of entries. The contest coordinated with the District 157-C Character Counts character education program and April being “Citizenship” month at Grand Prairie. The T-shirt drawing contest asked students to demonstrate what it looks like to be a good citizen as part of the Grand Prairie Community. The special T-shirts featuring Abby’s design were worn by the team in the race.
