Hickory Creek Middle School held its “End of 4th Quarter Celebration Assembly” recently. Teams from each grade level had the opportunity to share their successes and celebrations throughout 4th Quarter focusing on the five areas of “Earning Your Stripes!” for academics, character, responsibility, school spirit, and participation.
Intramural bowling, Track, Student Government Day, Talent Show, and the Mary Poppins Musical were also recognized and celebrated.
The school body was updated on the Make-A-Wish Challenge and learned that they had reached their goal of $5,000 for the school year. Development Manager/Community Events representative from the Make-A-Wish Organization, Ashley Nichele, spoke at the assembly and presented a heartfelt thank you for the school’s efforts in granting a local Frankfort child their wish. Appreciation was extended to the students, staff, parents, Student Council, and the Family School Partnership (FSP) for their generous donations and contributions.

A student from each grade level was recognized for participating in the Patrick Mizwicki’s Strive for Five challenge, which involved responding to three questions pertaining to doing our best and involving effort, determination, and patience into our character.
Mrs. Peggy Luther was recognized as a retiree and the school acknowledged her teaching and dedication throughout the years.

Dr. Kevin Suchinski was recognized and presented with the “Best Principal” certificate. The school wished him the best of luck in his new position as Superintendent of Hillside District 93.
Along with the 4th quarter assembly, a second assembly was also provided to the students. Dr. Gary Smit, the author of “Instilling Touchstones of Character” presented to each grade level. He spoke directly to students and staff about understanding and applying values and character traits to their everyday lives. Throughout 4th Quarter, students during their Advisory classes were able to participate in discovery activities taken from “Instilling Touchstones of Character.” These activities pertained to the development of attitudes, beliefs, and convictions about values and character traits to students. Dr. Smit provided a deeper discussion and extension of the values, skills, and character traits during the grade-level presentations.
