Hickory Creek Middle School Spelling Bee

Winner is seventh grader Abigail McCreary

The Hickory Creek Middle School 2nd annual Spelling Bee was held on February 6. The event was sponsored by the Family School Partnership (FSP) organization and conducted as part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Association.

Hickory Creek Principal, Dr. Kevin Suchinski, congratulated the 67 students who chose to participate in their classroom spelling bee. The four highest scorers from their sixth, seventh and eighth grade classroom spelling bee were selected to participate in the school bee. They included 6th Grade: Noah Weygandt, Cal Wiechers, Aidan Leiteritz, Allison Lisota; 7th Grade: Abigail McCreary, Michael Clarkin, Alex Desjardins, Kendall Blankenburg; and 8th Grade: Caitlyn Caraway, Connor Knutson, Nate Warning, Kirsten Lutz.

The pronouncer for the spelling bee was District 157-C Assistant Superintendent Curt Saindon and the judges were teachers Vanessa Giammarco, Jennifer Rayola, and Tonia Gatsios.

The Hickory Creek Spelling Bee lasted 17 Rounds with Abigail McCreary and Allison Listota as the finalists. Abigail McCreary won the Spelling Bee with the winning word “quadrangle”. Abigail will compete in the Will County Regional Spelling on March 5th at Lockport East High School. Abigail is shown in photo with Assistant Superintendent Curt Saindon.
