Hickory Creek Middle School students to meet popular author
Tim Green to speak to students about his books and the importance of education and reading thanks to grant from Education Foundation

Hickory Creek Middle School sixth through eighth grade students and staff will welcome author Tim Green on Wednesday, February 3 at 1:00 p.m. An evening presentation will also take place at 6:00 p.m. for District 157-C families and community members at the school at 22150 W. 116th Avenue. These two presentations about the importance of education and reading are being funded through a grant from the District 157-C Education Foundation.
After studying writing at Syracuse University where he was an All American football player, Green was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons where he was a top defensive player for eight years. While he played in the NFL, he also studied law and began his writing career. By the time he retired from football in 1994, Green had already published his first book and become a lawyer. In addition to those two jobs, he began working as a television broadcaster for FOX NFL Sunday and other shows, including Battlebots, Good Morning America, Court TV, A Current Affair, and most recently, Find My Family.
After writing more than a dozen books for adults, Tim began writing a series of novels for young readers set in a world of sports taken from his own experiences as an athlete and a coach. In the meantime, Tim has visited over 1,000 schools and spoken to nearly a half million students across the United States about the importance of education and character, in addition to the joys and benefits of reading.

His book “Unstoppable” was a Rebecca Caudill nominee in 2015 and many Hickory Creek students read and enjoyed it. The school has all of his titles in its collection. Librarian Marybeth Raynes said the books are checked out almost constantly, so she knew a visit from the author would be well-received by the students. She stated, “Hickory Creek Principal Will Seidelmann recently purchased two more copies of all of Tim Green’s titles. I processed them and put them in the collection on Monday and by Tuesday afternoon they were all checked out to students! We are extremely grateful to the Education Foundation for funding our grant and the Kumon Math and Reading Center of New Lenox and The Blankenburg Family for their generous donations towards our grant.” More information about the author can be found at www.timgreenbooks.com.
