Hickory Creek sixth graders make "Sweet Connections"

Students bring Valentine goodie bags to nursing center residents

Sixth grade students at Hickory Creek Middle School made Valentine’s Day special for the residents of Frankfort Terrace Nursing Center with a gift of Valentine goodie bags. The program, “Sweet Connections” is a community outreach program to the elderly.

Leading up to Valentine’s Day, the students participate in a “Sweet Connections” Advisory project, discussing health issues that seniors encounter later in life and creating goodie bags for the residents. Generous parents and school staff donate items to fill the goodie bags. The students also make stationery kits with hand-made cards and they construct and decorate candy boxes.

Coordinated by teacher Renee’ Grady with participation by all of the sixth grade teachers and students, the annual project supports the District 157-C Character Counts character education program.
