Hickory Creek Softball Heads To Sectional Championship

The team became regional champions this week, and will face Homewood's James Hart Middle School in the sectional championship on Saturday.

FRANKFORT, IL — At the inaugural Des Plaines Valley Conference tournament last week, the Hickory Creek Middle School varsity softball team took home first place, the District said in a news release.

The tournament was held at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet. Hickory Creek faced the Troy Trojans in the championship game, winning 12-5, the District said.

The team consists of Bella Cortes, Julia Donnellan, Katie Harper, Sarah Hellrung, Emersyn Hughes, Reagan Johnson, Jillian Kwiecinski, Emilia Maciel, Haley Muehlnickel, Lauren Muehlnickel, Olivia Spacucello, Maddy Sweet and Juliette Vock.

The team is managed by Kate Bohms and coached by Erin Nemeth and Mitch Stein.

The team became regional champions this week, and will face Homewood's James Hart Middle School in the sectional championship on Saturday. The winner of the sectional will head to the state final tournament.

"Varsity softball is currently the first seed and is expected to make it to state again this year," the district said.

The varsity boys baseball team also took second place at the Des Plaines Valley Conference tournament. The team consists of Malcom Donaldson, Jimmy Hellrung, Peyton Jagielski, Kaden Muir, Andrew Langlois, Ethan Langlands, Quinn Schneider, Trey Slager, Tucker Fatland, Kamden
Johnston, Keegan Crabtree, Kyle Ossowski, Caden Rose, and Julian Yanong.

The team is coached by Josh Purpura. Regional competition is Sept. 16 for baseball, and the sectional championship will be Sept. 23.
