Hickory Creek students send candy to troops

Putting their Halloween candy to good use

Eighth grade students at Hickory Creek Middle School again participated in Operation Gratitude’s candy buy back this year. Many of the students had gone “trick or treating” on Halloween and wanted to donate their candy to the troops. After Halloween, the students brought in candy for the program.

The students brought in over 6,000 pieces of candy that was dropped off to Manhattan Dental, a dental practice in the area that was coordinating the effort. The candy will be combined with their other donations and sent to troops through the Operation Gratitude program. Operation Gratitude is an organization based out of California which makes care packages for overseas troops during the holidays.

Hickory Creek Middle School Principal Dr. Kevin Suchinski was pleased with the students’ efforts to support the troops, saying it was inspiring seeing them “pay it forward.” The effort supports the Frankfort School District 157-C Character Counts character education program.
