Hickory Creek walk to support Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

All-school walk to raise funds for CF Foundation

On Friday, May 22, sixth through eighth grade students at Hickory Creek Middle School will walk to support GREAT STRIDES: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis. The walk will begin with an assembly at 7:55 a.m. at the school with special guests, Village of Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland, Police Chief John Burica and Fire Department Chief James Grady.

Over the past ten years, Hickory Creek has raised over $10,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and walked in honor of twelve year old Colin Walsh and his team. The students have been collecting donations for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through their Advisory Classes and online at http://fightcf.cff.org/goto/HCMS. Donations are tax-deductible and do not benefit one specific person but go to the Foundation to support its efforts to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

This year, the students will walk in honor of five year old Dean Burns who is living with Cystic Fibrosis and has a sister, Cali, in sixth grade at the school. The torch is being passed to the Dean Burns family by the Walsh family. To learn more about Dean, go to www.eatpraydean.com.

Immediately after the assembly, District 157-C students, staff and parents are invited to participate in the walk on the track. Hickory Creek teacher and Walk Coordinator David Wonder stated, “We will gather as a school working together to make a difference, to meet Colin and Dean and their families and walk on the track to raise money for this great cause.” More information is with the school at 815-469-4474 or dwonder@fsd157c.org.
