The Illinois Municipal League recognizes State Representative Al Riley.
Chicago, IL - The Illinois Municipal League recognized House Assistant Majority Leader Al Riley (D-38) on Saturday, September 24, at its 103rd Annual Conference “in appreciation for support of municipal government during the 2016 legislative session.” Local governments faced challenges this session related to state-shared revenues, budgetary appropriations for local services and efforts to restrict local revenue collections.
The IML Annual Conference was held September 22 through September 24 at the Hilton Chicago Hotel, and approximately 2,000 municipal officials attended.
“We had a busy legislative session advocating for reforms that are crucial to maintaining fiscal solvency for municipalities across the state, and the IML appreciates the leadership of these legislators who supported the interests of their district and local governments,” said Brad Cole, executive director of IML. “In light of the budget impasse and tough economy, it was a critical year for our voice to be heard on issues such as automatic appropriation authority, unfunded mandates, transportation issues and unpaid state utility bills.”
