In collaboration with Harbor House, Zonta members have raised the bar on their mission to empower women with the October 2018 event. It’s a call for active support from hundreds or even thousands of men, women and children who live in and around Kankakee and Iroquois counties, as well as those from the southwest and western suburbs. Help us champion the cause of domestic violence victims!

Tami Galbreath, event coordinator for Zonta said, “When you participate in the Empowerment: Solidarity Walk with DV Victims, you demonstrate a commitment to end the cycle of violence, which devastates the individual and the whole family; it impacts families for generations.”

The “ultimate goal” of the walk—planned to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month—is to get the public to understand how prevalent domestic violence is in this society. “We’re hoping the community will come together in a unified way, adopting zero tolerance attitudes about abuse in the home and in our communities,” according to Harbor House outreach coordinator Ann Delabre.

A walk in solidarity with victims of domestic violence gives participants a chance to reflect on the pain and suffering of so many loved ones and friends. True empowerment, said Galbreath, comes when the community advocates on behalf of serious policies enacted at the state, local and national levels.

“It’s a long overdue social justice issue,” added Delabre.

Ending the cycle of violence starts with you

Create or Join a Team

Whether you are walking with a school, club, church, corporation, or family and friends, this is the best way to get everyone together under the same banner.

Team Captains create the team, email team members, organize team fundraisers, and lead the team the day of the walk.

Walk as an Individual

Although no one ever walks alone, you can always register to walk as an individual and meet other members of the community the day of the walk.

Walk Virtually

Can’t make a walk this year, but still want to show your support? Register as a Virtual Walker.
