Latest Frankfort Coronavirus Updates: 455 Cases In Will County

Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Frankfort.

FRANKFORT, IL — The new coronavirus outbreak in Illinois and across the country is having vast impacts in Frankfort, including the closure of several local businesses, the library, park district and schools.

As of Friday, the number of cases in Illinois is 8,904 and 210 people have died from the coronavirus. According to the Will County Department of Health, there are 455 confirmed cases in the county, and 10 county residents have died.

Governor JB Pritzker has also issued a stay-at-home order in effect until April 30. With this order, only essential businesses like grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants offering carry-out services can remain open.

Although park district facilities are closed, the Frankfort Park District will hold a virtual egg hunt at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4. You can join in on the park district's Facebook page. MORE.

The Frankfort Library is also holding a fort-building competition. You can submit pictures of your best fort until 11:59 p.m. on April 4. Post photos or a video to the Facebook event page or email to youthservices@frankfortlibrary.org. MORE.

Schools across Illinois, and in Frankfort, will be closed until April 30, per Pritzker's stay-at-home order. MORE.

BUSINESSES

Frankfort Patch is gathering information from local businesses to create a business directory for residents to access during this time. MORE.

HOSPITALS
Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox confirmed it will take two inmates from the Stateville Correctional Center for treatment of the new coronavirus. MORE.

Silver Cross Hospital has now implemented universal masking, which requires all employees and medical staff members to wear a cloth or procedural mask at all times at all Silver Cross locations. MORE.

FIRE DEPARTMENT
Several local police and fire departments, including the Frankfort Fire Protection District, are seeking donations of supplies and personal protective equipment to help protect first responders. MORE.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

The Diocese of Joliet has suspended all normal religious services, which includes celebrations for Easter Week. The services are canceled until further notice. The Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs has also suspended its Friday services. MORE.

22nd Century Media, the parent company of several weekly community newspapers across the Chicago area, including The Frankfort Station, closed its doors permanently March 31. The company cited the economic downturn caused by the new coronavirus crisis as the reason for the closure. MORE.

The Frankfort Park District has announced that all its parks are now closed. Previously, playgrounds and the Bark Park were closed, but the park district has extended the closure to include paths/trails, basketball courts, tennis courts, athletic fields, open green space and hard play surfaces. The Frankfort Public Library is closed until further notice. You should not return any checked out materials; all due dates have been extended through May 1.
