Lincoln Meadow Park Project Awarded $400K Grant

The grant will include improvements like a Challenger Ninja Course, a park shelter, site amenities and path connections.

FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort Park District has been awarded a $400,000 grant to make improvements to Lincoln Meadow Park. The grant is from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and was secured by State Sen. Michael Hastings, the park district said.

The grant will include improvements like a Challenger Ninja Course, a park shelter, site amenities and paths to connect to the existing playground. The park is near the Brook Side I and II subdivision and Lincoln Meadows.

The park district said the existing playground at Lincoln Meadows was installed in 2016 and includes only a small play structure. Executive Director Hassett said,

"The improvements will be a welcomed enhancement, Executive Director Gina Hassett said in a release. The Ninja course will replace a ball field, while still allowing for green space that will remain available for open recreational use.

"The DCEO funding is a welcomed investment that will provide increased recreational opportunities for the residents and community of Frankfort. The Park District does not have an
existing challenge course. Senator Hastings remains a strong advocate for the Frankfort Park District and recreational agencies across the State of Illinois," Hassett said.

The Lincoln Meadows project has been bid, and the park district anticipates awarding the contract in January, the district said.

Construction should begin in the spring.

The location of the park is at Johnson Avenue and Elm Street which is south of Route 30 and is easily accessed from Old Plank Trail.
