Lincoln-Way Air Force JROTC Teams Will Compete In National Competition

Lincoln-Way's JROTC teams earned top scores out of the 630 Air Force JROTC academic teams that competed from around the world.

FRANKFORT, IL — Air Force JROTC cadets at Lincoln-Way Central, West And East high schools will head to Washington, D.C., in June for the Academic Bowl Championship, according to a news release from the district.

The JROTC Academic Team, which advanced through two phases of online competition, includes Isella Estes, Alison Jachymiak, Christian Knutson, Trent Kudla, Tyler Simons, Alex Vilis, Maxwell Bacon, Madeline Clark, Alexandria Farej, Teagan Powers and Joaquin Tsoukatos.

The team will head to The Catholic University of America in June for the 2023 U.S. Air Force JROTC Academic Bowl Championship. This event is sponsored by the U.S. Air Force JROTC and is conducted by College Options Foundation.

According to the district, Lincoln-Way’s JROTC teams earned top scores out of the 630 Air Force JROTC academic teams that competed from around the world. The teams, from Lincoln-Way West/Central and Lincoln-Way East, are two of only sixteen Air Force JROTC Academic Bowl teams in the nation to advance to the final competition.

During the preliminary rounds, cadets were tested on their knowledge of core curriculum such as math, science, and language arts as well as current events, citizenship, leadership skills and financial literacy, the District said. Financial literacy videos are sponsored by the USAA Educational Foundation and provided to all cadets.
