Lincoln-Way District Hockey Club Stands Out for Community Engagement

In a remarkable display of community spirit, the Lincoln-Way District Hockey Club has been making waves both on the ice and in the community over the past three months. This active engagement began in October with the club’s annual Cancer Skate Fundraiser, aimed at supporting the Cancer Support Center, which operates in Mokena and Homewood.

The event brought together all four LW Hockey teams for an evening filled with action and goodwill. Alongside hockey, attendees participated in a bake sale, purchased t-shirts and bracelets, and entered a raffle featuring over 50 gift baskets donated by club families. The efforts culminated in a substantial contribution of $5,169 to the Cancer Support Center, bringing the total donated by LW Hockey over the years to more than $41,000.

November saw the club pivot to a food-focused initiative with its first annual food drive for the Frankfort Township Food Pantry. This successful drive raised $900 through community donations and a raffle of unique custom soup bowls crafted by the Varsity hockey players. The club didn’t stop there—members also assembled 50 “birthday kits,” filled with cake-making essentials such as candles and balloons to celebrate those in need. Moreover, the initiative resulted in two carloads of food being donated to the pantry.

Most recently, the club rallied behind Lincoln-Way East senior Emily Vogdes for their 2nd Annual Toy Drive, which benefited the Pediatric Treasure Chest Foundation. With contributions from not only LW families but also those associated with the DuPage Stars, Plainfield Predators, and Highland Park Hockey Clubs, the team managed to collect and donate an impressive 403 toys. These gifts will brighten the lives of children and teens battling cancer throughout the Chicago area.

Through these commendable initiatives, the Lincoln-Way District Hockey Club has showcased its commitment to making a positive impact on the community, proving that their dedication extends far beyond the ice rink.
