Lincoln-Way Hosts Winter Guard International Regional Event

FRANKFORT, IL — Lincoln-Way will host the Winter Guard International Regional event Feb. 29- March 1 at Lincoln-Way East. The district said 56 Color Guard teams, including Lincoln-Way’s varsity team, from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Nebraska will compete at the Chicago Regional.

According to the district, WGI Sport of the Arts centers on providing a venue for young people to pursue excellence in both performance and competition through nationwide color guard, indoor percussion, and winds regional competitive events.

“WGI Sport of the Arts continues to be a catalyst for extracurricular activity in most high schools with over 100,000 dedicated students wanting to participate in the marching arts in local, national, and international events,” WGI Executive Director Ron Nankervis said in a release. “From a humble beginning 43 years ago with 34 groups, WGI has grown to now see more than 1,500 groups participating in 2020.”

The Chicago Regional is a qualifying event for the 2020 WGI World Championships
which will be held in Dayton, Ohio in April.
