Lincoln-Way JV1 Crowned 2024-2025 Illinois West West Cup Champion

In a thrilling showdown tonight, the Lincoln-Way JV1 boys proved their dominance by clinching the 2024-2025 Illinois West West Cup Championship, defeating the Warrior Hockey Club with a resounding final score of 6-0. The boys delivered a stellar performance, inspired by an electrifying home crowd that created an undeniable home ice advantage.

The action kicked off early in the first period, with the Lincoln-Way squad wasting no time to establish control of the game. Just 6 minutes and 55 seconds in, Grant Briscoe found the back of the net, igniting the team's momentum. He was assisted by Joey Smuskiewicz, who would soon make his mark on the score sheet as well. Less than four minutes later, Smuskiewicz scored his own goal, with Briscoe returning the favor on the assist, alongside Jason Sciacca, putting the boys ahead 2-0.

The second period saw no let-up from Lincoln-Way, as they added two more goals to their tally. In the closing moments of the period, Gavin Vasquez unleashed a shot from the point, finding the net with support from Owen Britt and Andrew Maertin. Not to be outdone, Danny Aleo added another goal shortly after, assisted by Hunter Lovett and Jack Antonsen, reinforcing Lincoln-Way's commanding lead.

As the third period unfolded, Lincoln-Way kept their foot on the gas. Danny Peterson scored early, with assistance from Owen Britt and Alex Macri, making the score 5-0. Macri then sealed the game's fate with a goal of his own, with Owen Britt aiding him in an outstanding display of teamwork. Remarkably, a total of 11 different Lincoln-Way players contributed to the scoring effort, showcasing the team's depth and talent.

In goal, Jacob Andersen was a formidable force, earning the shutout with a remarkable performance that included a game-saving glove save when the score was still 2-0. His composure under pressure prevented any momentum shift for the Warriors, marking Lincoln-Way’s second shutout in less than a week.

The Lincoln-Way District Hockey Club is 100% composed of student-athletes from Lincoln-Way School District 210. All players attend either Central, East or West. The mission of the Lincoln-Way District Hockey Club (LWDHC) is to provide Lincoln-Way High School District 210 students with the opportunity to play competitive ice hockey in a manner that is consistent with other school sanctioned sports. The philosophy of the LWDHC is that success will come naturally from expert instruction in the fundamentals of the sport and the development of advanced hockey skills while placing a priority on good sportsmanship, having fun and academic achievement.
