Lincoln-Way West Bridge Builders Advance to International Bridge Competition

The competition will be held in Oregon in April.

Two Lincoln-Way West students dominated at the Regional Bridge Building Competition held recently at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Ryan Hastings, Ray Muro Barrios, Jacob Carlson and Miranda Davis all placed in the top ten in the South Suburbs Region division.

The Regional contest is broken into three regions: South Suburbs, North Suburbs, and the City of Chicago. In the South Suburbs Region, Lincoln-Way District 210 schools had the top 11 positions.

Ryan Hasting’s bridge took first place with a bridge efficiency of 2809, with Ray’s bridge placing 2nd with an efficiency of 2545. Ryan’s bridge also won the trophy for highest efficiency in the entire competition.

Ryan and Ray both advance to the International Bridge Competition which will be held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Portland, Oregon in April.

“Congratulations to all four Warriors on a sterling performance,” said Chester Szmurlo, physics teacher and sponsor of the West Bridge Building contest.
