Man Charged After Stealing Car From Frankfort Gas Station: Cops

Sundstrom was booked into Will County Adult Detention Facility on Tuesday and has a court date on Wednesday.

FRANKFORT, IL — An Elgin man has been charged after stealing a car from a Frankfort gas station, police said. Brian Sundstrom, 30, has been charged with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and theft. Frankfort Police said officers were dispatched to Speedway, 11151 W. Lincoln Highway, at 6:21 a.m. Tuesday about a car theft in progress. The car stolen was a white 2018 Chevy Silverado.

According to police, the car's owner had left the keys inside the car while it was running and he was inside the store. The gas station was able to provide video footage of the offender who stole the car and an officer recognized Sundstrom.

Police said another officer who was looking for the stolen car found Sundstrom near Williamsburg Trail and Concord. The car was then found abandoned near 180th Avenue and Pioneer Trail. Sundstrom was placed into custody after police said an officer found the victim's cell phone and key fob to the stole car in his possession.

Sundstrom was booked into Will County Adult Detention Facility on Tuesday and has a court date on Wednesday.

Sundstrom was previously arrested in 2016 by Frankfort Police and charged with possession of stolen vehicle.
